The First of the Few (1942), released as Spitfire in the US, is a stirring wartime tribute to RJ Mitchell, the brilliant designer of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire. David Niven shines as a charming, driven Geoffrey Crisp, Mitchell’s test pilot best friend, while Leslie Howard (who also directed) delivers a poignant performance as the ailing genius racing against time to perfect Britain’s savior fighter before WWII erupts. Filmed during the Battle of Britain with real Spitfires and RAF pilots, it’s both propaganda and heartfelt biography.

Night Train to Munich is a 1940 British thriller film directed by Carol Reed and starring Margaret Lockwood and Rex Harrison. Written by Sidney Gilliat and Frank Launder, based on the 1939 short story Report on a Fugitive by Gordon Wellesley, the film is about an inventor and his daughter who are kidnapped by the Gestapo after the Nazis march into Prague in the prelude to the Second World War. A British secret service agent follows them, disguised as a senior German army officer pretending to woo the daughter over to the Nazi cause.

 Today we watched this romantic drama set in occupied France. It was very good. A tale of collaboration and love between enemies. Wiki. It is based on a bestseller that was written during the war but lay undiscovered for 60 years. Worth the 50p I speculated on it. Trailer

From the wiki April 9th (Danish: 9. april) is a 2015 Danish Second World War film directed by Roni Ezra and starring Pilou Asbæk and Lars Mikkelsen. The film depicts the German invasion of Denmark which commenced on 9 April 1940 and follows a group of Danish bicycle infantry sent as a vanguard to slow down the German advance until reinforcements can arrive.
